New Hospital Masterplan
Craigavon Area Hospital
The Craigavon Hospital proposals embrace the city’s culture and setting, adopting a site specific landscape strategy that plays on relationships between interior and exterior spaces. The design proposals reconcile the requirements of a complex and technically demanding programme into a simple compact built form. The gradient of the site has been utilised within the design to humanise the scale of the building and provide a welcoming and inviting facility as patients arrive in a central unifying atrium. Dynamic links bisect this glazed spine at different levels and link all departments in three dimensions. The strategy provides the Southern Health and Social Care Trust with a strong but simple means to implement masterplan, delivering flexibility and functionality which set the standard for the healthcare architecture of tomorrow.
